Here at Stovewood Direct, we are aware that over many years, the firewood industry has developed a bad name by supplying “wet” wood.

Many people don’t realise that the wood they have been supplied with is unsuitable, and that burning it has harmful effects on the environment.

Wet wood doesn’t burn properly – causing it to release harmful gases and fine particles into the air around us.

That's why we ensure all of our East Sussex logs are kiln dried, reducing the moisture content in each log, and creating the perfect fire.

The energy used to heat our kiln is created by burning our very own wood scraps after coppicing and processing. Furthermore, our site is fitted with solar panels.

Care for wildlife

Coppicing allows sunlight to reach the forest floor, in turn increasing biodiversity encouraging our local, East Sussex wildlife to flourish.

Currently, over 50% of the “Kiln-dried“ firewood sold in England is sourced internationally (from countries like Romania and Lithuania) meaning huge amounts of fossil fuels are released in the atmosphere just to get the wood to the UK.

We believe this is a crisis that cannot be ignored.

Our firewood is grown right here in East Sussex, and processed by our family on-site in Battle, then delivered to local areas such as Hastings and Eastbourne.
